Here are a few goals you can set for yourself to encourage a healthy gut in 2022.

Try A More Gut-Friendly Diet

The easiest way to address gut flora imbalance is to take stock of what exactly you’re putting into your stomach in the first place. Of course, healthy individuals could choose to take supplements for everyday bloating, stomach vitamins, or probiotics for digestion, but you can also support your overall gut health just by switching up the food that you eat. Some of the best foods for gut health are foods that are high in fiber, such as bananas, peas, or whole grain products, or foods in which probiotics occur naturally, like yogurt.

You can also incorporate fermented foods or drinks like kimchi, sauerkraut, sourdough bread, or kombucha into your diet; these foods are excellent for gut health because they combine probiotics, fiber, and vitamins in one delicious serving. It’s also a good idea to diversify your diet—a diverse gut microbiome is ideal for gut health. Look up recipes for gut health and try out a few new meals… maybe you’ll even find yourself a new favorite dish!

Get Out and Get Moving!

Another tried and true way to improve your gut health, and the function of your digestive system overall, is to incorporate some exercise into your daily routine. Start small, like adding in a daily walk around your block or to a local park, then build to more strenuous activities as your body is comfortable doing so. The more you get out and move around, the more likely it is that your gut microbiome will be healthier on the whole.

Give Up Smoking

It goes without saying that giving up smoking is good for you, but it also has specific benefits for your gut health. Smoking regularly has a whole host of negative effects on your digestive health, and can cause heartburn, gallstones, liver and colon disease, stomach ulcers, and even cancer.

Catch Up On Your Beauty Sleep

Sleep is another great tool for improving gut health. Our gut health is closely connected to our circadian rhythms, which are greatly affected when we do not get at least 7 solid hours of sleep. You want to make sure that you’re achieving REM cycle sleep, which only accounts for 25% of our nightly sleep, but which is very important for mood regulation, improving long-term memory, and has lots of other benefits to our system on the whole. Long story short, if you get better sleep at night, your gut will function better.

Stress Less

In the same way, focusing on reducing your stress levels is also good for your gut. Anxiety often triggers unwanted stomach problems, whether or not you have a pre-existing digestive condition. Activities like meditation, measured breathing exercises, or yoga can be calming and fulfilling in other ways, too.

Learn About the Pros of Probiotics

Simply speaking, probiotics are designed to help introduce healthy bacteria to your gastrointestinal system. Probiotics can come in the form of specifically designed supplements, like Floradapt’s Gut Comfort, or they can occur naturally, in foods like yogurt or kefir. Good bacteria is a vital part of our digestive system, and probiotics help keep your system balanced.*  One great way to commit to improving your gut health in 2022 is to learn more about probiotics, and if you decide they are right for you, start incorporating them into your health regimen. Our probiotics are designed to address specific health areas, but if your stomach is your primary focus, we recommend trying Floradapt Gut Comfort, which has been clinically tested to promote and maintain a healthy gut microbiome.

Adopting any of these strategies for improving gut comfort—with or without the help of probiotics for digestion—is a great step toward a healthy stomach and a healthy body overall.
